Is selling on amazon.com free?

If you decide to sell items on amazon.com, is there a monthly fee to have a seller’s account, or is it free? I’m wondering because I saw an ad to become a pro merchant (sell 40+ items in a month), so that your fees are lowered so that the account can “pay for itself”.

Marketplace items list for free, but a 6 to 15 percent commission, a variable closing fee, and a $0.99 per-transaction fee are applied when a sale occurs. The $0.99 per-transaction fee is waived for Pro Merchants. Click to view more information about Marketplace seller fees (including a list of commission rates) and shipping credits.
