How do I return an item on Amazon.com?

The seller is not Amazon itself but a different merchant. I’ve contacted them via email and they replied saying that I may return the product. So now do i just ship the product back to their address? What if they dont credit my account or am I suppose to wait for that and then send the product abck to them? Is there anything else i need to know? Thnxs.
